of June, Saturday, a great day was celebrated at the Rivera Cuale, which is an
amazing condominium that is built on the beautiful banks of River Cuale at El
Caloso. The children from the community participated in order to attain and be
a prominent part of the activities and education pertaining to the environment.
The children
with their mothers started arriving by 10 a.m. who were then greeted by the
team of Rivera Cuale. They were also given T-shirts which had been specifically
designed for this purpose. These shirts were in three different colors and had
“Chicos Rescatitas” written on them along with trees which clearly defined the
importance of the environment to these children. These colors which were chosen for the t-shirts were a symbol of Puerto Vallarta. The green colored shirts
depicted Organic, the blue depicted Inorganic and the
Even the Manager
of the "Participación Ciudadana," Mr. C. Isidro Gilberto Hernandez
Cardenas, was present and he brought garbage bags and showed the children the
different colored stickers. The Manager, Salvador Lorenzana, of the tour called
Sierra Madre which is present at Vallarta Adventures, was there, in order to
arrange and prepare the children for the first activity that they were going to
perform. Lorenzana carefully clarified the different types of garbage and
consequently all the participants and the children then visited the streets and
the areas around the river in order to collect the garbage.
For the safety
of the children, the slicker sides of the river banks were evaded. Looking at
all the children, working hard, at their given assignments and picking up the
garbage was a sight to behold. Even younger children of merely two years were
trying to help out. Up to 20 bags of garbage were collected by 50 children in
only a matter of an hour! Our children need a pat on the back, don’t you agree?
Around 12.30
p.m. the children came back to Rivera Cuale to freshen up and enjoy their
lunch. This was not the end. There were many activities which took place after
lunch. The children were then divided into two groups out of which one of the
groups had to remain outside and discover additional information about the
environment. The other group was shown different videos related to pollution,
contamination, recycling, our nature and its protection. Once both groups had
performed their respective activities, the groups were switched.
The next
activity generated a lot of fervor in the children as they were asked questions
about whatever they had learned throughout the day. Once the children had the
incentive that they would win prizes for answering correctly, almost all the
children voluntarily participated. Subsequently, the next activity that these
children did was to draw. For this they were given prizes by all the
organizations that supported this cause. Among them were Frutas Baca, Los
Arbolitos Restaurant, Deportes Gutiérrez Rizo, Ecotours de Mexico, Supermercado
Gutiérrez Rizo, Encore Consignment Boutique, Red Cabbage Café and
