    WAILUKU, Hawaii — Maui's long-established bed and breakfast industry has faltered since county officials cracked down on illegal vacation rentals, leaving the island with fewer accommodations for its many visitors.

    There's a growing trend in some of our local communities that has some city leaders concerned: Short-term vacation rentals.

    TITUSVILLE - Vacation home owners in Titusville beware: You may soon become a lawbreaker.  On Tuesday, the city began considering a proposed ordinance that prohibits detached single-family home rentals for three months or less within most zoning districts, "in order to preserve the character and integrity of residential neighborhoods."

    The Ogden Dunes Town Council has authorized Town Attorney Chuck Lukmann to take legal action against the owners of a home who, the council claims, have rented that residence for a period of less than 30 days, in what a statement released on Tuesday maintains is a violation of Town Code.


    Private rental plan stirs debate

    BOSTON — Summer cottage rentals are a tradition on Cape Cod, offering sand and sunshine, and no small measure of freedom from workaday worries.

    Plans to curtail the practice surprise those who offer their homes part of the year.  Even those willing to pay for a room with a view could be out of luck in St. Augustine Beach.

    Lawsuit aims to stop tax reform

    A Florida mayor is suing the sunshine state.
    Eric Hersh is the mayor of a small city in south Florida. He says the lawsuit he filed is an effort to stop the statewide referendum in January on the legislature's Super Homestead proposal. He also said it is not being funded by the city of Weston, near Ft. Lauderdale, where he serves as mayor. He filed it on July 9 as a private taxpayer and citizen. If successful, he could at the very least get the referendum postponed until next November.

    The Lincoln City Planning Commission agreed late Tuesday night to continue to Sept. 18 a zoning ordinance amendment hearing regarding vacation rental dwellings.
